Help with your 2015 content marketing resolutions

Written by Axonn on 2nd Jan 2015

This is going to be a great year for content marketing. The industry is booming and the money is flowing (research shows 64 per cent of marketers will spend more on content this year than in 2014) – so what are you going to do to make 2015 your best content marketing year yet?

Chances are you know what you want to achieve this year. You have a strategy, some content ideas and a renewed sense of vigour to tackle the challenges you are likely to face. But as we all know, good intentions only get you so far… you need to be determined and hardworking to achieve those resolutions. But you don’t need to do it alone. We’ve put together some of our best resources to help you achieve your content marketing goals for 2015. Good luck!

In 2015, I’ll stay on top of content marketing trends

Start off by checking out the latest research into the industry. Last month, we sponsored Content Marketing Institute’s UK content marketing benchmarks study, and the results are fascinating. Find out what your peers are prioritising in 2015 and what the best-in-class content marketers are doing differently.

Make sure you follow the right people on Twitter so you’re in the know with the latest industry conversations. A good list to follow is these 140 super awesome content marketers. Track their conversations with the click of a button by subscribing to this list.

We’ve asked some of the leading content marketers in the UK what they think will be important trends in 2015. See what they had to say – there might be something in there that can help shape your strategy. Some experts have also shared their top tip for marketers keen to make 2015 their most successful year yet.

This year, I’ll make SEO work in my favour

It’s important to understand – and stay on top of – Google’s most important changes.

In 2014, Google has said that it will start using HTTPS as a ranking factor. It’s not had a significant impact on rankings (yet), but it can’t hurt to sort it, right? Here’s what you need to know about HTTPS, and here’s what we’ve learned when we made the switch.

We’ll get the best ever social media engagement in 2015

Social media isn’t about you; it’s about your audience. We’ve asked 1,000 UK social media users what they expect of brands online, and shared the results in this guide. No time to read the whole report? You can catch the highlights in this infographic.

One of the best ways to amplify your social media presence is to get your staff active on social media. Here’s how to get everyone from the finance team to the CEO social media savvy.

And finally, don’t forget to measure the impact of your efforts. Make sure you keep an eye on metrics to understand what gets engagement and what gets ignored. Learn more about measuring success here.

Use more visuals in content marketing in the new year

The vast majority of information your brain processes is visual, so it makes sense to use visuals as an effective way to communicate with your audience.

However, it seems while most marketers understand this, few are prioritising visual content marketing.

If you want to stand out from the crowd, here are some resources to help:

  • A post on the five things you need to do before starting an infographic project.
  • 10 things you didn’t know you could do with Pinterest
  • An upcoming webinar on how to harness the power of visual content (full of free tools for non-designers)

Plan 2015 seasonal content well enough in advance

You know that feeling when you get a brilliant content idea as soon as you see something trend on social media? We did too, which is why we’ve created a content inspiration calendar to help us (and other marketers) never miss something like Wear a Gorilla Suit to Work Day or Cupcake Week again. Get the calendar to help you plan seasonal content this year.

We’re going global in 2015

These are exciting times. Growing internet penetration and the proliferation of internet-enabled devices are making it possible for people across the world to connect faster and more in a more meaningful way than ever before. So it’s no wonder that more organisations are setting their sights on international trade, bringing with it the challenges of multicultural content marketing.

Multilingual content that is sensitive to local cultures is of paramount importance when expanding into new markets abroad. But what if we told you that you may need a multilingual content strategy even if you only operate in the UK? Here’s what you need to know about multilingual content marketing in the UK: not everyone in the UK speaks English.

But for those with growing international audiences, it’s important you know how to implement a multilingual content strategy.

More good news is that you can learn from the many organisations that have already had success with multicultural content marketing. Here are seven lessons from that may just help you along the way.

I hope these resources will prove helpful to you as you approach 2015 with gusto. Here’s to your success!

Happy new year, dear readers!
